Archive: Getting Started Creating a Story
Solution You're an exited, new writer and after registering on our site, the first thing you may want to do is publish your story. To do this is relatively simple, but it WILL require some patience on your part. That will be explained in a moment.

It is VITALLY important that you first read and understand our Terms of Service. We have some specific rules about what types of stories are allowed on our site and what types of stories are not. You will save yourself trouble and grief by understanding our ratings, guidelines and rules.

To create a story in the Archive:
1. Log into your account in the Archive.
2. Click on Your Account
3. Click on Add New Story
4. Fill in all pertinent information, such as the story title, story summary, banner, story format (like one-shot, novel, etc), and other selections that will enable readers to search stories by certain criteria.
5. Click on Save Story Info

Important! At this stage, you are only creating a story "shell". No chapters have yet been added. You can think of this as creating a folder that tells the story title, ratings, and other information, but with no content. The actual chapters/content of the story will be added at the next step.

To add a chapter to your story
1. Log into your account in the Archive.
2. Click on Your Account
3. Click on Add New Chapter. A page showing all of the story "shells" you have created will be shown.
4. Click on Add Chapter next to the story shell you wish to add the chapter to.
5. Follow the instructions by the text boxes for entering your chapter content. It is STRONGLY suggested that you compose your story first in an external text document and then paste it into the text box. For your security, the system will log you out of your account after several minutes of inactivity and all the text you have typed may be lost.
6. Click on Preview.

Your chapter will appear on the screen as it will appear when published. It is VERY important that you carefully review what is on the screen. We know you are anxious to see your work published, but you will "turn off" readers if your chapter looks terrible. The extra few moments it takes to double-check your work will make all the difference in reader numbers and reviews!

If you are happy with the way your chapter looks, click the Submit button.

Understanding Validation
Every chapter that is submitted to our site must go through validation (everyone except the Trusted Authors). This means that once you have entered a chapter, it will go into the "queue", a kind of holding area that is viewable only to the staff. A staff member will read through your chapter, making sure it meets all of our site rules. If it does, the staff member will publish it. If it does not, the staff member (called a "validator") will reject this chapter, and insert a note telling you what needs to be done to correct the chapter to comply with our rules.

Validation can be a very complicated issue. Please read more here in The Ins and Outs of Validation.
