Using the Search Function

Section A
Similar to the old search function, this area provides two drop down menus. You choose your first character, then your second character and then hit submit. Stories where the author has listed those characters will be pulled up for you.

Section B
A generic search for all stories with a particular rating. Simply click on your desired rating.

Section C
A generic search for all stories either complete or WIP (works in progress). Click on your choice to locate those stories.

Section D
A search for stories by their format. There are several new changes here. You now may search by the following options:
One shot
Short Story - stories with a word count of 2,000-17,500
Novella - stories with a word count less than 50,000
Novel - stories with a word count greater than 50,000
Short Story Collection - a collection of one shots or short stories combined into one longer story
Songfic
NOT One-shot

Section E
A generic search for stories that have been featured on the HPFF homepage (Featured) or a randomly selected story from the archive (Random).

Section F
Search for all stories in a specific genre. Note, two additional genres have been added.

Section G
An entirely new section, you will now have the availability to search by the era in which the story takes place.
Founders – taking place during the time period of the Hogwarts Founders.
Marauders – taking place during the time period in which James, Sirius, etc., were in school.
Pre-Hogwarts – taking place during the time before Harry, Ron and Hermione entered school. (Does not necessarily pertain to them.)
Hogwarts – taking place during the time Harry, Ron and Hermione are attending Hogwarts. (Does not necessarily pertain to them.)
Post-Hogwarts – taking place during the time after Harry, Ron and Hermione exited school. (Does not necessarily pertain to them.)
Next Generation – focusing on the children of current Hogwarts students (Harry, Hermione, Ron, etc...)
Other – taking place in an era other than the ones listed above.

Section H
The section everyone most wanted. An entirely upgraded ship section for your favorite pairings. Click on your favorite to search for those stories.

Section I
The section most resembling the old search page. The above items are combined here so that you can find exactly what you are looking for. You can narrow your search based on the above sections. Simply go through step by step and choose the exact parameters you are looking for.

Special Note: Although these will be fully searchable as time goes on, many stories will have to be adjusted to fit into the correct categories. This means that while you may know a Sirius/Lily exists in the archive the search function will not recognize it until the author has edited their story to list it as Sirius/Lily. We are dependent on the authors, in this case, to make sure the fic is properly assigned and can be found easily with the new search options.
