Answer   An avatar is the small square picture that you can add to your account. It will appear in the upper left-hand corner of a post you create. You also use avatars on AOL, MSN, and Yahoo! Messengers.

The HPFF forums only allow users who are Members+ (150 posts or more) to upload their own avatars. (see Post Counts) Those considered new students and Members must use avatars from the base gallery. To look at the base gallery, take the following steps:

1. Find the drop-down menu located in the upper right portion of your screen when you are on the forums
2. Click on "My Settings" and select the "Profile" tab
3. Click on "Change Avatar" (on the left-hand side of the screen), and scroll down to "Pre-installed avatars"
4. Explore the different galleries

From there, you can choose which avatar to choose for your account. Keep looking -- there are MANY avatars to choose from!
