Answer A common issue for HPFF members is login problems. There are generally two types of problems when trying to login: you attempt to login but get the same page back as if you had never logged in, or you get an error page.

A repeating blank login page
The first type of problem is generally a one-time issue, but can be encountered again when trying to login at a different computer (like at a friend's houses, school or library PC, or your little brother's computer). The page will appear to "refresh." You will enter your username and  password and press "Submit," but the page will just flicker and reappear as though you never touched it. This is an issue caused by incorrect cookie settings and is most often perpetrated by Internet Explorer or Internet Explorer derivative browsers. The instructions, per browser, are listed below.  If your browser is not listed, you can also try switching to a different internet browser, like Mozilla Firefox.
Internet Explorer 6.0 and above: Start --> Run --> "iexplore" --> OK. This command will open Internet Explorer, commonly known as IE, on your PC and allow you to work forward from there. Once you're within the browser, follow these instructions to adjust the cookie settings to allow cookies from HPFF. Tools --> Internet Options --> Privacy --> Sites --> "harrypotterfanfiction.com" --> Allow --> "fanfictionworld.net" --> Allow --> OK Mac Internet Explorer: Explorer --> Preferences --> Security Zones --> "Low" AOL: From the AOL toolbar, select Settings --> Preferences --> Internet Properties (WWW) --> Privacy --> Advanced --> Deselect Override Automatic Cookie Handling --> OK Mac Safari: Safari --> Preferences --> Security then Accept Cookies --> Choose Either "Always" or "Only From Sites You Navigate To"
An error message when trying to login
The second possible issue you may encounter with logging in is a password problem. You will know if the issue is with your username/password combination if you are receiving the error message "That password doesn't match the one in our database. Please try again or retrieve a new password if you can't remember yours." To correct password issues, please review the Password Issues FAQ.
